Lindsay Lohan’s been charming audiences with her Netflix rom-coms, but she’s got her eyes on new horizons. In a recent Elle interview, the star said she’s ready to step away from those cozy holiday flicks, noting, “I can’t do movies like these forever.” After a trio of feel-good hits, Lohan’s itching to tackle fresh challenges and show off her range.
Her Netflix journey kicked off in 2022 with Falling for Christmas, a festive rom-com that marked her big acting comeback after a decade away. The movie’s warm reception led to a two-picture deal, delivering Irish Wish and Our Little Secret in 2024. These lighthearted films were a hit with fans craving escapist fun, and Lohan loved making movies that “make people happy and bring them together.” But now, she’s ready for something different. “With Netflix, I’m like, ‘Okay, now we need to be thinking about other stuff,’” she told Elle.
Lohan’s next stop is the big screen with Freakier Friday, the sequel to her 2003 classic Freaky Friday. Reuniting with Jamie Lee Curtis, she’ll reprise her role as Anna Coleman in a wild four-way body-swap comedy, hitting theaters on August 8, 2025. A CinemaCon sneak peek got fans buzzing, showing Lohan rocking out with Anna’s band, Pink Slip, and sparking chemistry with Chad Michael Murray. Directed by Nisha Ganatra and featuring Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Julia Butters, the film feels like a major moment for Lohan’s return to theaters.
She’s also jumping into TV with Count My Lies, a Hulu drama series where she’ll star as Violet, a wealthy mom, and take on an executive producer role. Based on Sophie Stava’s novel and backed by This Is Us showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the project is a bold step away from her rom-com roots, letting her dive into a more complex character.
Lohan’s career has been a wild ride since her days as a child star in The Parent Trap (1998) and teen icon in Mean Girls (2004). After a quieter period living in Dubai and Mykonos—where she went viral for her beach club dance moves—she’s back, juggling motherhood, marriage, and a packed slate of projects. Her Netflix rom-coms were a perfect reentry, reminding fans of her charm, but Lohan’s ready to stretch herself.
With Freakier Friday bringing her back to theaters and Count My Lies promising a dramatic turn on Hulu, Lohan’s proving she’s more than a rom-com star. She’s chasing roles that let her grow while still delivering the escapism fans love. As she balances her comeback with new ambitions, fans are hyped to see what’s next for the star who’s clearly just getting started.
